What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Inside every tooth, beneath the hard enamel and dentin, lies a soft tissue called the pulp, containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When this pulp becomes infected (typically from deep decay, a crack, or repeated dental work on the same tooth), it causes significant pain and, if left untreated, can lead to abscess or tooth loss.Root canal treatment removes the infected pulp, thoroughly cleans and disinfects the canals, and seals the tooth against future infection. The tooth is then restored, usually with a crown, so it’s designed to look and function like it did before. Dr. Luca and Dr. Jack are general dentists; more complex root canal cases are referred to an endodontist when appropriate.
